Gripset E60 prepares damp concrete and screeds for compatible waterproofing membranes and floor finishes, helping reduce the risk of moisture-related blistering and loss of adhesion. This two-part, water-based epoxy primer also works as a moisture barrier for concrete when applied at the specified two-coat rate. Use it for internal or external substrate preparation, rising-damp treatment and efflorescence control on suitable mineral surfaces.   • Suitable for concrete, concrete block, screed, render, masonry, glass-reinforced concrete and compressed fibre-cement sheeting.
  • Use the general-primer rate for adhesion preparation, the vapour-barrier rate for residual moisture before Gripset membranes, or the two-coat moisture-barrier system for permanent moisture and rising damp.
  • Prepare a sound, smooth surface; remove laitance, curing compounds, existing coatings and contaminants mechanically, and fill defects.
  • Damp substrates are permitted, but standing water must be removed and running water stopped before application.
  • Confirm the selected membrane or finish is compatible. Direct tile adhesives, cementitious toppings and levellers require the specified two-coat, sand-seeded preparation.
  • Not a trafficable finish or a final coating for permanent UV exposure.
  • Type: two-component, water-based epoxy primer and barrier coating; listed kits: 10 L and 20 L combined Part A + Part B.
  • Mixing: equal volumes of Part A and Part B; pot life approximately 2 hours at 23°C and 50% RH. Mix only what can be used within the TDS’s 1–2-hour working period.
  • General primer: one coat at 10 m²/L; nominal 50 microns dry film thickness.
  • Vapour barrier: one coat at 3 m²/L; nominal 150 microns dry film thickness.
  • Moisture barrier: two coats at 3 m²/L per coat; minimum 300 microns total dry film thickness.
  • Drying at 23°C and 50% RH: recoat 4 hours; overcoat with finishes 24 hours; full cure and immersion 7 days. Cool or humid conditions extend these times.
  • Substrate age: the TDS gives 28 days for concrete and 7 days for cement render/sand–cement screeds, while also listing green-substrate applications. Confirm earlier application with Gripset.
  • Overlaid membranes/paint finishes: apply within 72 hours of the dried film; later work may require light sanding or another E60 coat as specified.
  • Direct tile adhesives, cementitious toppings and levellers: two coats at 3 m²/L/coat; broadcast fine dry sand into the wet second coat at 750 g/m² for at least 90% coverage, then remove loose sand after drying.
  • Application temperature: 10–35°C. Do not apply during rain or when rain is imminent.
  • Manufacturer states compliance with AS 4020 for potable-water storage. This is not a blanket claim of wet-area or external waterproofing installation compliance.
  • Shelf life: 12 months in original unopened packaging; store dry at room temperature, protected from freezing and direct sunlight.

Gripset E60 FAQs

Can Gripset E60 be applied to damp concrete or screed?
Yes. E60 is suitable for damp concrete and mineral substrates. Remove standing water and stop running water before coating. Use the vapour-barrier or moisture-barrier application rate where moisture control is required; a thin general-primer coat is a different application.
Is E60 a primer or a moisture barrier?
It can serve either function, with different application rates. General priming uses one coat at 10 m²/L. Vapour-barrier preparation before Gripset membranes uses one coat at 3 m²/L. The moisture-barrier system for permanent moisture and rising damp uses two coats at 3 m²/L per coat, achieving at least 300 microns total dry film thickness.
How much area does a 10 L or 20 L E60 kit cover?
For general priming, approximately 100 m² or 200 m² respectively. For a single-coat vapour barrier, approximately 30 m² or 60 m². For the complete two-coat moisture-barrier system, approximately 15 m² or 30 m². These figures exclude wastage; porous or uneven substrates require more material to achieve the specified thickness.
How long between coats, and when can waterproofing follow?
At 23°C and 50% relative humidity, the TDS gives 4 hours between E60 coats and 24 hours before overcoating with finishes. Use the overcoating time for a following membrane, not the recoat time. Cooler or more humid conditions extend drying. Full cure and immersion are 7 days.
How soon can E60 be used on new concrete or screed?
The current TDS lists damp and green-concrete uses, but its preparation section also specifies at least 28 days for concrete and 7 days for cement render/sand–cement screeds. It does not resolve an earlier-age exception. Confirm the substrate age and proposed system with Gripset before early application; E60’s drying times do not establish when a new substrate is ready.
Can I tile or apply a levelling compound directly over E60?
Yes, using the TDS’s specified preparation: two coats at 3 m²/L per coat, with fine dry sand broadcast into the wet second coat at 750 g/m² for at least 90% coverage. Remove loose sand after drying. Check the adhesive or leveller’s requirements and confirm the installation window with Gripset, because its blog gives additional 48-hour guidance for cementitious overlays.
What if more than 72 hours pass before applying a membrane?
For liquid membranes and paint finishes, the TDS specifies application within 72 hours of the dried E60 film. After that, light sanding with 240-grit sandpaper may be required; a further E60 coat may also be required. Follow the TDS and confirm the preparation for your selected finish.
Can E60 be left as an exposed floor finish?
No. The TDS excludes trafficable coatings and finished coatings subject to permanent UV exposure. Select a compatible finish suited to the intended exposure and use.
