ACT AD-1 is a full acrylic polymer liquid additive for sand-cement screeds, cement-based tile adhesives, renders, slurry coats and bond coats over porous concrete and masonry substrates. It improves strength,
  • Increases tensile and compressive strength in compatible cement-based formulations.
  • Improves flexibility where structural or thermal movement may be expected.
  • Reduces shrinkage in modified screeds, mortars, adhesives and renders.

  • Improves flexibility where structural or thermal movement may be expected.
  • Reduces shrinkage and improves shock and frost resistance.
  • PDS describes the additive as waterproof when incorporated into suitable cementitious formulations; it is not a standalone membrane.
  • Suitable for internal and external applications on porous substrates.
  • Application-specific dilution: 2:1 water to AD-1 for screeds; 1:1 water to AD-1 for adhesives, slurries and bond coats.
  • Thin white liquid with minimal odour and 0 g/L VOC according to the SDS.
  • Classified as non-hazardous according to the supplied SDS.
  • Water and detergent clean-up before drying.
  • Available in 4 L and 20 L plastic containers.
  • 1. Confirm all masonry or concrete substrates are clean, dry, porous and free of dust, wax, oil, grease, laitance, curing compounds, paint, coatings and other adhesion-inhibiting contamination.
  • 2. Allow concrete substrates to cure for 28 days. A porous wood-float finish is preferred. Allow sand-cement screeds and renders to cure for seven days.
  • 3. Do not use AD-1 on non-porous substrates or when the application temperature is below 5°C or above 35°C.
  • 4. For sand-cement screeds, mix two parts clean water with one part AD-1, then add this liquid to a 3:1 or 4:1 sand-cement blend. Mix to a consistency suitable for compacting and ruling to the specified falls.
  • 5. For cement-based adhesives, dilute AD-1 1:1 with clean drinking water. Mechanically mix into the rigid cement adhesive until smooth and lump-free, allow three minutes, then re-stir.
  • 6. For slurry and bond coats, dilute AD-1 1:1 with clean drinking water and mix the solution with neat cement or ACT ADH-55 to slurry consistency.
  • 7. Brush the slurry thoroughly into the clean porous substrate with a stiff broom. Place the sand-cement screed while the slurry or bond coat remains wet.
  • 8. Allow an AD-1-modified sand-cement screed to cure for at least 24 hours before tiling with the compatible ACT adhesive specified in the PDS, subject to actual site conditions.
  • 9. Remove uncured AD-1 with a damp cloth and clean tools with water and detergent before the product dries.
  • Full acrylic polymer additive supplied as a thin white liquid with minimal odour. The SDS records 0 g/L VOC, water miscibility, non-combustible behaviour and non-hazardous classification. For sand-cement screeds, dilute two parts water to one part AD-1 before adding to a 3:1 or 4:1 sand-cement blend. For cement-based adhesives, slurry coats and bond coats, dilute AD-1 1:1 with clean drinking water. Apply only between 5°C and 35°C and do not use on non-porous substrates. Supplied in 4 L and 20 L plastic containers with a shelf life up to 12 months unopened under the stated storage conditions.
