Polyurethane Retaining Wall System
A liquid polyurethane pathway that must be selected as a complete, compatible primer, membrane, detailing, protection and drainage assembly for the site conditions.
When is this system suitable?
Use these checks to decide whether this system is appropriate for the application.
Typical applications
This pathway should only be considered where an exact polyurethane system is documented for the substrate, exposure and below-ground construction detail.
Key site conditions
Confirm substrate moisture, primer selection, ventilation, application access, curing, protection and the proposed drainage arrangement.
Confirm before choosing
Technical confirmation is required before selecting any product. Do not substitute primers, sealants, membranes or protection layers from unrelated systems.
Build the system in sequence
A polyurethane membrane cannot be selected in isolation from its primer, detailing materials, protection and drainage requirements.
-
Assess, prepare and repair the substrate
Confirm substrate type, moisture condition, access, cracking and water exposure, then clean, prepare and complete compatible local repairs before considering a polyurethane assembly.
Technical note: Below-ground use must be confirmed for the exact primer, membrane, detailing and protection system. -
Form cove fillets and reinforce junctions
Form compatible cove fillets at internal wall-to-footing or wall-to-floor junctions and complete the nominated cold-joint, penetration and movement details before membrane application.
Technical note: Detailing materials must be chemically compatible with the nominated polyurethane system. -
Prime or precondition where required
Prime the substrate to suit the selected polyurethane system, taking into account substrate condition, porosity and residual moisture.
Technical note: Use the primer nominated for the selected membrane system; primers shown are not universally interchangeable. -
Apply the selected polyurethane membrane
Apply the confirmed membrane to the documented thickness, coat sequence, reinforcement and curing requirements.
Technical note: Select one polyurethane membrane system and follow its nominated primer, coverage, detailing and curing requirements. -
Protect, drain and prepare for backfilling
Allow the membrane to cure, then install the required protection and drainage layers, secure them as needed, and backfill carefully without damaging the waterproofing system.
Technical note: Protection, drainage and fixing methods must not puncture or compromise the completed membrane. Confirm chemical compatibility with the selected polyurethane system.
Need help assessing the polyurethane pathway?
Tell H2O Supplies about the substrate, moisture exposure, wall access, drainage and proposed backfill. We can help determine whether a nominated polyurethane system warrants further consideration.
Formal waterproofing specifications, engineering certification and site-specific design remain separate services.
